(H/F) Systems Engineer – Robotics Safety & Functional Safety

About

This role sits at the intersection of systems engineering, safety engineering and regulatory compliance, and requires strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across the company (mechanics, electronics, embedded software, control, AI, clinical and regulatory teams).

The objective of the role is to ensure that Wandercraft robotic systems are designed, analyzed and validated according to the highest standards of safety, functional safety and regulatory compliance, while enabling rapid innovation in humanoid robotics.

Safety architecture and functional safety engineering

  • Define system-level safety architectures and safety-critical functions

  • Derive technical safety requirements from hazard analyses

  • Contribute to the design and evaluation of functional safety mechanisms within the robotic system

Functional safety assessment

  • Evaluate the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and/or Performance Level (PL) required and achieved by system functions

  • Work closely with subsystem teams (electronics, mechanics, embedded software, control) to ensure safety requirements are correctly implemented

  • Ensure alignment with applicable safety standards

Systems engineering for advanced robotic systems

  • Contribute to the system engineering activities for Wandercraft robotic platforms, including humanoid robots and medical exoskeletons

  • Support system architecture definition and ensure consistency across hardware and software subsystems

  • Maintain system-level technical coherence across multidisciplinary engineering teams

Requirements engineering and MBSE

  • Define, structure and manage system requirements throughout the product lifecycle

  • Ensure traceability between system requirements, subsystem specifications and verification activities

  • Contribute to the deployment of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools

  • Support system modeling and documentation to improve communication and design robustness

Verification & Validation strategy

  • Co-define the system Verification & Validation strategy for Wandercraft robotic products

  • Ensure traceability between requirements, tests and validation evidence

  • Coordinate system-level validation activities with subsystem teams

Regulatory compliance and risk management

  • Evaluate product compliance with applicable machinery safety regulations and functional safety standards

  • Contribute to Wandercraft’s compliance with the EU Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) and emerging regulatory frameworks applicable to advanced robotics

  • Perform and maintain product-level risk analyses (FMEA / FMECA)

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of safety engineering processes within the company
